ART AT THE AIRPORT

The Triangle Area Sister Cities has put a 45 foot mural in the RDU International Terminal's baggage claim!!! The ‘Friendly Folks’ mural by Jane Filer was commissioned by the Triangle Area Sister Cities and unveiled on February 10, 2011.

Ms. Filer's wonderful tour of the mural can be seen here!  http://www.youtube.com/user/RDUAirport  Check it out! See each detail of the mural--it's gorgeous!

See our "Gallery" link for our 32 photos! Mindy Hamlin, Marketing Communications Manager for the Raleigh-Durham Airport Authority also provided us with these photos of the event:  http://www.flickr.com/photos/rduairport/

Media coverage included WRAL, News14, WPTF and the Herald-Sun. The N&O will be featuring a spread on all of the art in Terminal 2 in a few weeks. We will post these media links as soon as we can.

The Friendly Folks mural welcomes international travelers to the Triangle Community, celebrates the Triangle Area Sister Cities' relationships with 13 international sister cities, and promotes our mission: ‘World Peace: One Friendship and One Community at a time’.

Project History

The Triangle Area Sister Cities (TASC) are Durham, Cary, Raleigh, and Southern Pines--representing ourselves and 13 international sister cities. After obtaining permission from the RDU Airport Authority, we partnered with Cary Visual Art to solicit and judge numerous artists’ applications. After careful consideration we chose Jane Filer, an internationally-successful artist based in Chapel Hill! Each city has raised some funds to complete the project and a grant has been submitted to the North Carolina Arts Council.
