Sister Cities of Durham, Inc. is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization promoting international friendship, intercultural understanding, and economic development. Our honorary Chair is Mayor Bell, and we are affiliated in good standing with Durham City Hall, Triangle Area Sister Cities, and Sister Cities International (SCI). Our cities are: - Arusha, Tanzania;
- Toyama, Japan;
- Kostroma, Russia;
- and Durham, United Kingdom.

What is Sister Cities International? In 1956 President Dwight D. Eisenhower encouraged citizen diplomacy initiatives. Over time, several groups merged to form SCI at its Washington, D.C. headquarters. Please see: www.sister-cities.org for more information about SCI.
